A father’s wise advice set a young Michael Archer on the path to an incredibly rewarding career as an optical dispenser, and work he loves. Later, after working for larger optical brands such as OPSM and Budget Eyewear, Michael took that advice one step further and decided to go out on his own.

Michael is known for his big ideas – and doing what it takes to make them happen (he even threw a surprise wedding for his wife Pia but that’s a whole other story – spoiler: she said “I do”). Being independent and owning his own practice was a big step but it also meant more freedom and satisfaction, and above all, providing a more unique, personalised eye care service.

With a vision of making a difference in his community, and of building a practice where his customers were welcomed like family, Michael took the plunge and opened the doors here in Mordialloc in 1991. A year later optometrist Haroula Fantaoutsakis joined the team and together they’ve been caring for the local Mordialloc community ever since.

The practice has continued to grow, with wife Pia coming on board, and the welcome addition of experienced optical dispensers Mary Lawrence, Bianca Quinlan and Gina Tesmann to the Mordialloc Optical family.
